PROFILE 

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust (East Division) is responsible for managing a comprehensive range of integrated hospital and community services for a resident population of approximately 300,000, living mostly in the County Boroughs of Neath, Port Talbot, Bridgend and the western part of the Vale of Glamorgan. To the west of the Trust's catchment area, hospitals in the Neath Port Talbot area provide local general hospital services while acute district general hospital services are provided in Bridgend. Some specialties provide services beyond the local catchment area; Forensic Mental Health covers the whole of South Wales and Learning Disability Services covers an area stretching from Swansea to Cardiff.

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust (East Division) is one of the largest Trusts in Wales and employs approximately 7,000 staff including more than 100 Consultant Medical Staff. Annual income is around £327 million. It is responsible for twelve hospitals with over 1,400 beds and for more than 29 community premises.

POW Hospital 07

The Princess of Wales Hospital is a district general hospital within the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust (East Division). Opened in 1985, the Hospital is located on the outskirts of Bridgend town in South Wales, and provides modern, purpose-built accommodation for the provision of acute health services to the local population of approximately 160,000 people.

Neath Port Talbot Hospital 07





The Neath Port Talbot Hospital has 270 beds and provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and day case services for the people of Neath and Port Talbot. The hospital was officially opened  by HRH the Prince of Wales on 3rd February 2003.

Princess of Wales Hospital

POW Postgrad Lecture Theatre 07

The conference facilities include a tiered 120 seat Lecture Theatre with state of the art audio-visual equipment and a communication system that can offer world-wide satellite link up. Two bright, spacious Seminar Rooms, each seating 15 people, can be adpted to provide a facility that seats 40 people.

POW Postgraduate Library 07

The modern Library provides a comprehensive range of resources for study. As well as an up-to-date collection of publications and periodicals, there are multi-media facilities, a study area and a work area. Twenty four hour access is available. A full time librarian, a full time library assistant and a part time library assistant.

The Neath Port Talbot Education Centre incorporating Conference and Library facilities is located  in the main Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

The Library facility provides a comprehensive range of resources for study and education. An up-to-date collection of publications and periodicals, inter-library loans, video collection, Internet access and wide selection of database packages are available.

DIRECTORATE PROFILES

Anaesthetics & Critical Care

Responsible for providing anaesthetic cover to surgical and obstetrics specialties across the Trust as well as managing pain relief services. The Directorate also manages the Main Theatres, Day Surgery and Critical Care Units at both Princess of Wales and Neath Port Talbot Hospitals and the Sterile Services Department at the Princess of Wales Hospital

Integrated Medicine

Responsible for the provision of Accident & Emergency and Minor Injuries Services, Acute Medical services for Emergency Admissions, outpatients and daycase services across sub-specialties of Cardiology, Care of the Elderly, Dermatology, Diabetology, Gastroenterology, Haematology (Neath Port Talbot only), Nephrology, Neurology, Palliative Care, Health Psychology, Cario-Pulmonary Diagnostic Services (ECG department), and Neurophysiology Diagnostic Services.

Surgical Specialties

Responsible for a wide range of services including General Surgery, Urology, Trauma & Othopaedic, Ear, Nose & Throat, Audiology, Ophthalmology, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry, Surgical Treatment Centre and the Eye Treatment Centre.

Mental Health

Responsible for providing a range of services including Community Mental Health, General Adult Psychiatry, Substance Misuse, Old Age Psychiatry and Rehabilitation.
