Our mission is to help trainees acheive their maximum potential in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG) has developed a curriculum that will train individuals to be part of the NHS workforce in the 21st Century.  The School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Wales is focused on delivering this curriculum and meeting PMETB Generic Standards for Training.

There are approximately 110 trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Wales, and we also liaise with the School of General Practice to deliver training for approximately 40 General Practice trainees.  This training is delivered across all Health Boards in Wales.

We assess training needs and match trainees with appropriate training locations. Trainees tend to be located in one of three regions (North, South West or South East Wales) for the first five years of training.  Following this, trainees are then located in the region or hospital that can best deliver the Advance Training Skills Modules (ATSMs) they need.
